Why books/novels should be read firsthand ?
As a civilized and intelligent animal, human beings have a tendency to explore and learn things. Mostly we learn through two methods, by imitating and talking to people and reading books. Value of books are known to all and that's why books are known as a best companion to us. Life in 21st century has also become fast and we are now used to fast food, short movies. Even news are also being limited to few lines.Books can't be untouched by the trends of our era and summaries are created to cater to impatient readers but it has some serious problems with this short version. Here are some reasons that tells that books should be read in spite of their short versions.
The novel broadens our insight and builds our thinking capacity, aware us to the outer cold world and the reality. We face many issues which we haven't faced in our entire life and how to deal with these things. The summarized form doesn't cater to our need to increase our imaginative and creative powers.

It allows us to imbibe amazing vocabulary and also help in building our language skills. We all want to learn new words which can lead to effective communication and writing skills. Repetitive words occurring in the book become successful in entering the long term memory chambers in our brain.
It immerse us into the universe of the story of the novel and we get introduced to minute details of the scenes and happenings. You will always have an upper hand over others in knowing and explaining things with that detail which don't know because they read the usual summarized version.
A summary usually briefs us only to the parts which the author of the summary finds vital and influential to the whole story. So many small yet important details remain missing from the summary.
Also the reading we have done of the text also ensure that we don't forget the content easily which happens with reading summary, this is due to the fact that when we read a novel, we enter in that world and there are myriad things and it takes time to finish a novel unlike a summary which is finished in maximum two hours.
The study also helps us in viewing and interpreting the characters from our own perspective. It is relatively difficult to grasp others' opinion than ours. People around you who haven't read the original won't have the liberty of giving your own in-depth analysis of characters, their behaviour and countless other things.
Also after reading a literary work even for one time, we feel confident about knowing everything related to the work, we never get a feeling of missing some detail. But in the case of a summary or an abridged version, we can't always be confident about knowing everything about it.
We can find beautiful and golden lines from the text and quote them in our exam to make an answer effective and flaunt them in our conversations.
