Positive & Negative features Of World State In Brave New World

Positive Features :
  • None of the citizens carries/acquires any disease because of the advancement in medical science. Treatment of every disease is possible there. Moreover, no one grows old and people remain young throughout their life.
  • War has no place in the World State and various arrangement are made to avoid a war. In fact, violence is totally prohibited.
  • It's all about happiness. The government wants its citizen to live jubilant life with no distress or loneliness. Soma is a life-saver.
  • Every basic amenities are provided to people and there is no dearth of nearly anything. It is wholly a productive society.
  • Protection and adaptation against the occupational hazards. Chemical workers are immunized against toleration of lead, caustic soda, tar and chlorine. Similarly, rocket-plane engineers are enhanced with an improved sense of balance.
Negative Features :
  • An advance yet class-based (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon) society which is contrary to a highly modern world. Each class perform its own category of works according to their status.
  • Stability of the State is given sole priority over other aspects of individualistic life. Choice of an individual doesn't matter and people are taught to behave in a certain manner.
  • No teaching of history before the advent of Ford. All institutions before Ford are taboo. Talks of mother and father, marriage, family, works of Shakespeare and many other things are banned.
  • No Fundamental Rights of Freedom of Speech and Privacy are conferred on citizens. Bernard Marx was criticised for his preference for privacy. Other people find this preference peculiar.
  • The governing system of World State is an autocratic one. All modern nations go through the crucial phase of democracy which promotes liberalism. But democracy is missing in World State.
  • Religion and spiritualism are obsolete things in World State. Without religion, people don't fear God and that's why they engage in vulgar activities which are given legitimate status. People are materialistic there with no spiritual ambitions.
  • The government doesn't encourage saving and instead drives people to all sorts of recreational activities.
